“They dropped instruction of a second language, which is sadly indicative of what's going on with Homewood City Schools. Instead of teaching French or Spanish early on, which is what should be done - (the earlier the better with a second language), Homewood's School System waits until junior high school to offer Spanish. It is not until high school that students are offered the choice of French or Spanish; Too late according to research to really learn a second language. If you like the basics, Edgewood is for you. If your child is gifted, forget this school.”

“Loving environment with caring teachers, some of whom are absolutely excellent. Great art, music and library instruction. Tremendous parent involvement. Negatives: Minimal foreign language instruction. Candy routinely given as rewards. Christian religion strongly emphasized. Traditional gender sterotyping. No math, chess or science extracurricular activities. My kids loved it, but I wished the school emphasized creativity and academic achievement more (and didn't spend so much time on behavior rules--like not talking in the bathroom).”

This has been an area of concern for us. We feel that there should be a more seasoned level of leadership at the school.”
